It has officially been announced that Erasure's forthcoming
'covers' album is to be entitled Other People's Songs and is
set for release in February 2003. The tracklisting is still being decided,
but it is likely the album will include versions of Ave Maria,

You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling and a reworking of one of the
band's very own songs. The album has been produced by Gareth Jones and

Track List For Covers Album Revealed
Posted: 28th August 2002 - Source Erasure.com
A proposed track list for Erasure's forthcoming covers
album has been made available. According to the rumours the following
songs have been recorded by the band: I Am The Walrus (The
Beatles); Sugar Sugar (The Archies); Who Wears Short Shorts
(Royal Teens); Solisbury Hill (Peter Gabriel); When Will
I See You Again (3 Degrees); Bobbie's Girl (Marcie Blaine);
Better Love Next Time (Dr. Hook); Comfortably Numb
(Pink Floyd); Ave Maria (Carpenters) and I'm Coming Out
(Diana Ross). It has been implied before that Erasure
planned to 'cover' one of their own tracks, with the rumour-mill suggesting
A Little Respect has been redone, with lyrics of Aretha Franklin's
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. song tied in for good measure. Of course all
of the above is merely speculation at this stage, with no official announcement
having been made, so take the track list above with some skepticism.

Album Delayed Until 2003
Posted: 4th June 2002 - Source EIS
Erasure have returned to the studio with producer Gareth Jones
to continue working on their forthcoming album of cover versions. As
has been mentioned before, the band intend to record more songs than
is required and choose the best for inclusion on the album, with Erasure
expecting to continue recording more material well into the summer.
It is predicted the album will finally be released early in 2003.
EMI Acquires
Mute Records
Posted: 12th May 2002 - Source The
EMI Group
EMI Recorded Music has reported it has acquired Mute Records who are
Erasure's primary record label and UK distributor. The £42m deal
was agreed by Mute's founder Daniel Miller who will remain responsible
for all Mute's global operations, with EMI now owning rights to Mute's
back catalogue and dealings in the UK, US and Germany. What impact this
will have on future Erasure releases is unclear, but hopefully
now Mute, with more financial backing, will pump money into giving Erasure's
future releases the most possible promotion. Interestingly though, the
EMI press statement does not even mention Erasure as one of Mute's
leading artists so perhaps EMI will not sanction costly Erasure
promotion.
Band
Working On Classical Cover Versions
Posted: 2nd April 2002 - Source GarethJones.com
According to producer Gareth Jones, Erasure are working
on versions of Ave Maria (Gounod's arrangement) and Ebb
Tide to potentially be included on the forthcoming covers album.
The band have already recorded many cover version that won't make it
onto the final album, but it is possible these rejected tracks will
still be released as b-sides in the future. As of yet, no decision has
been made as to which tracks will and won't be on the final album. Watch
this space for updates.
Official
Covers Album Update
Posted: 5th March 2002 - Sources EIS
& GarethJones.com
Work is still well underway on Erasure's forthcoming
covers only album with Vince and Andy set to return to their respective
home studios shortly to continue recording and mixing tracks. So far
a dozen songs have been recorded, of which only 5 or 6 will make it
onto the final album. For the the next two months more songs will be
recorded and others tweaked and re-worked. It is hoped the album will
be completed during the spring for a mid-Autumn release, but this is
obviously subject to change. At least one single from the album is planned
to be release with the possibility of a tour not ruled out. Maverick
Records, who declined to give Loveboat a US release, will only
decide on whether to release this album once all tracks are completed.
A recent Dutch magazine article, available on Gareth Jones's website,
mentions four tracks which Erasure have so far recorded:
Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel; When I See You Again
by The Three Degrees; You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling by The
Righteous Brothers and the reworking of an unnamed Erasure
track (covering their own material?!). However not all of these songs
are certain to be on the final album, as it was always been the plan
to record more songs than is required and to chose the best ones for
inclusion on the final album. Any future news will be posted here.

Gareth Jones, the producer of Erasure's forthcoming
covers album, has written on his website that the band have recorded
14 tracks which will be completed this month. Although there is still
no official indication of what tracks will be featured on the album,
rumour has it that one of tracks is a version of Michael Jackson's early
hit Ben. It is also rumoured the Jackson 5 songs Dancing
Machine and Dance and Shout have been covered.
