Hardly surprising the hugely popular Oh L'amour was a clear and worthy winner. Love Is a Loser is an unlikely contender for second place and just saw of the challenge of My Heart...So Blue with 11 votes. Pistol and Say What didn't manage a vote between them, but both were excluded from the US version of Wonderland which might explain why. Favourite The Circus Track
The ever-popular Hideaway and Erasure's first and arguably biggest hit Sometimes were joint winners here, seeing off the album's title track by one vote. It is great to see that the sublime Spiralling is appreciated by the Erasure fans too, with this fantastic track getting a healthy 13 votes. How anyone could rate In The Hall of The Mountain King over Spiralling is simply incomprehensible. Well, to me anyway. Favourite The Innocents Track
A Little Respect was a comfortable winner here, but perhaps most interesting is the fact that three tracks failed to gain a single vote. No surprises the dreadful Sixty-Five Thousand did not get voted for, but are Imagination and Weight of The World that bad? Perhaps this boils down more to the strength of the likes of A Little Respect and other tracks rather than the weaknesses of these songs. Favourite Wild! Track
Another tied result with the successful singles of Blue Savannah and Drama! both gaining over a fifth of the votes each. Once more a non-vocal track fails to get any votes, this time with Piano Song -Instrumental being the unappreciated party. Despite being generally unpopular, the Latino La Gloria did register 3 votes, as many as the upbeat single Star. Favourite Chorus Track
The Dick Tracy reject Love To Hate You was the eventual winner after a close-fought contest. There is little between those vying for second spot with Am I Right? just fending off the opposition. Does the fact things were so close demonstrate the strength of the album as a whole is high, or instead that there are no standout tracks this album? I'll leave that judgment up to you. Favourite I Say I Say I Say Track
Not a surprise at all to see Always is the most popular track from this album. It is undoubtedly one of Erasure's best ever songs and raked in nearly a third of the votes with 26. It's nice to see how popular the magnificent Take Me Back is coming joint second with the almost as excellent I Love Saturday, a song that never quite fulfilled its potential in the UK charts peaking at a lowly #20. Favourite Erasure Track
Fiercely competitive, and after the lead changed many times it was Angel who came out as the shock winner, seeing off Fingers & Thumbs (Cold Summer's Day) by a solitary vote. Once you bypass the eerie opening to Angel, it is fundamentally a typical three minute Erasure song, and so perhaps to see it come triumphant is not so surprising. Favourite Cowboy Track
The excellent Save Me Darling is a worthy winner with over a fifth of the total vote. I'm surprised that Don't Say Your Love Is Killing Me is quite so popular, as I've never held it in high stead, and am disappointed in the lowly 7 votes received by Rain, which is one of my all-time favourite Erasure songs. I've also felt Boy is an undervalued Erasure track as seen here with just 3 votes. Each to their own I suppose. Favourite Loveboat Track
Freedom was a clear favourite with the fans easily coming top over Alien. Love Is The Rage got some of the recognition it deserves down in third place but how anyone could vote for the dire Mad As We Are is a complete mystery to me. Thankfully it only got a single, albeit undeserved, vote. Some might also say that second single Moon & The Sky under-performed with only 8 votes. Favourite Other People's Songs Track
A fiercely competitive poll saw the sublime Goodnight triumph by just two votes over You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'. The two singles Solsbury Hill and Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me) were tied in third place. Quite how the awful Video Killed The Radio Star got a single vote is anyone's guess, and to only receive two less votes than the excellent Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime is simply scandalous. Favourite Nightbird Track
Closely fought for a while, but in the end Here I Go Impossible Again was victorious ahead of the sublime I Bet You're Mad At Me. I was always under the impression that All This Time Still Falling Out Of Love was the fans' favourite from this album, but it would appear not as this song only managed third position. The majestic Breathe is under-appreciated, sharing 4th place with a host of other (inferior) tracks. |
